Since its release in 2020 Emily in Paris has received some criticism from journalists and Parisians for being ridiculously unrealistic… nevertheless, its global popularity has established it as a flagship Netflix show, which narrates most entertainingly the fairytale of Emily Cooper, a Millenial/Gen Z American in Paris, played by Lily Collins.

One could say that Emily has the size and charm of Audrey Hepburn and the irreverent style of the girl from Chicago. As her Parisian life unfolds, she seamlessly becomes so chic, and develops an unflappable je ne sais quoi.

The Emily in Paris series is a visual feast that unveils the Parisian codes: must-see iconic sites, trendy ‘m’as-tu vu’ spots, haute couture and snobbery, and, of course, exquisite food!

NB:
References to sex are part of the topic of the book (Emily in Paris series could be considered as the new Sex in the City set in Paris)

Mathilde Pineau-Valencienne
was born in Paris and raised in both Paris and London.
As a purely bilingual product of the end of the 70s,

After having lived in Portland USA as a French language assistant at Uni,
she taught French to Americans on her return to Paris
before starting a career in publishing.
She is un-admittedly a huge fan of the Emily in Paris Netflix show

SYNOPSIS

Wine, romance, and French bureaucracy – the ups and downs of an American’s life in Paris. This laugh-out-loud memoir is almost too funny to be true!

Drinking too much bubbly. Meeting sappy Frenchmen who have girlfriends or are creeps or both. Encountering problème after problème with French bureaucracy. When newly-single party girl Vicki moved to Paris, she was hoping to taste wine, stuff her face with croissants, and maybe fall in love.

In her first book, this long-time blogger and semi-professional drinker recounts the ups and downs of her life in Paris. Full of sass, shamefully honest admissions, and situations that seem too absurd to be true, Vicki makes you feel as if you’re stumbling along the cobblestones with her.

Will she find love? Will she learn to consume reasonable amounts of alcohol? Will the French administration ever cut her a break? [provided by the author]
