Oh, the political intrigue! The underhanded manipulations, the conniving, the decadence and moral depravity! Very racy stuff, and obviously, very riveting reading indeed! I’ll have to check this one out further. Looks like I might try it out! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my own Tuesday Intros post!! 🙂

it is indeed a wonderful historical novel, and so well researched

I’m curious enough to want to know more from the opening. I admit books about royalty and queen/king and their lovers doesn’t especially interest me, but sometimes I’m surprised and enjoy such books.

I agree, but when it is so well researched and written like this one, it’s a must. Plus really la Pompadour ended up practically ruling the king and the country!

The intro didn’t do it for me so I’m not sure I’d continue. Hope u like it though.

it was fantastic. If I had cheated and added one paragraph, things would suddenly have sounded exciting! Imagine, you are 9, and a gypsy tells you you will become one day the mistress of a king!

The blurb is more appealing than the opening, but it’s hard to tell based on just a paragraph or two…

Ooh this has caught my fancy – there is something very disturbing about fortune tellers and the creepiness of this one can’t be missed!

That is one way to begin a story! I might keep reading, but the initial paragraphs don’t really spark me.

I know, next paragraph is more enlightening: the gypsy tells her she will become the mistress of a king. her mother believes it, gives her a refined education, and she did become the most famous mistress of Louis XV. and we have some document proving that she did meet with a gypsy!

Hmm, fascinating…it is probably not for me, but I hope you enjoy it. Here’s mine: “TERRIBLE VIRTUE”
