My favorite genre is historical fiction. I love leaving the present and going back into the past. I’ve always loved history. I can honestly say I have learned more from reading then I ever did in school. Love visiting different eras through an Author’s words and research.

same here, I have learned more history through historical novels than boring history classes. When I think literature and history teachers could make so wonderful tandems to present a period to their students

do you know why?

I have a passion for historical fiction as well as for reading history generally. I suppose one reason I gravitate so strongly to stories of people in the past is that there are enough common human elements to engage my sympathy and interest but an escape is better safeguarded when no contemporary issues that may remind me of real life worries are embedded in the story as a matter of course. I never pondered this question before! Thanks for that and for this generous opportunity! Cheers, Kara S

I never thought of that myself, but facing it, I realize this is the same here, if feels safer when it’s about older issues.

Do you often succeed? I get better at doing it myself, but I can never figure out the why?

I’m getting better but the why is hard. Sometimes they don’t give you enough info. I don’t like it when it’s too easy! lol I want to have to think about it.

I love learning about history. It’s always been my favorite subject. Also, being able to understand the culture and time period while having a good time is always a plus! Ever since I was young, I was drawn to times I wasn’t a part of, and I’ve always enjoyed pretending I was born in the wrong time :p How about you?

History is taught in a very boring way at school (well, at least in French schools, where I did all my schooling), so discovering historical fiction was so refreshing. I also enjoy immersing myself in another period, discovering how people lived and thought. My favorite period is the Middle Ages. Actually, my taste is shifting and now my favorite genre is more historical mystery, mixing the treasures of historical fiction with the fun of an intrigue
