The Discerning Reader

This is one riveting narrative. I could not put this down, definitely commence reading when responsibilities won’t demand your time and attention, you won’t be able to loosen your grip from this fast paced enthralling story.
Referring to this trilogy as epic is an understatement, this is one amazing trilogy, biting my nails, as I anxiously await THE MORGENSTERN PROJECT. Highly highly recommend.

Musings of a Writer And Unabashed Francophile

The Shiro Project gripped me from the start, and I read it quickly, wanting to keep turning the pages (and not wanting to put it down to sleep).
I really can’t get enough of Eytan Morg. He’s compelling, and intriguing, and I want to know more.

New Books On My Shelves

No downtime, the story is fast paced and addictive.
By following the adventures of Eytan Morg, you get hooked in the blink of an eyes after the first sentences.
Action, suspense are accompanying this super duo in a well-crafted and well written story. It was a delight to read.

Queen of All She Reads

I highly enjoyed this quickly paced thriller and can’t wait to see what Mr. Khara dreams up for his characters next!

Books Are Cool

The action is fast-paced and there’s never a dull moment. However, that doesn’t mean that character development suffers. We get inside our protagonist and understand what drives all the people we meet. An original, eye-opening and entertaining read.

I Wish I lived In a Library

The characters were what really made this book enjoyable for me which I find unusual for this genre.

Book Nerd

This was  a fun read. It was fast-paced and the writing was engaging.

SYNOPSIS

“To forbid the fruit only sweetens its flavor”

Among the young women of 12th century Paris, Heloise d’Argenteuil stands apart. Extraordinarily educated and quick-witted, she is being groomed by her uncle to become an abbess in the service of God.

But with one encounter, her destiny changes forever. Pierre Abelard, headmaster at the Nôtre Dame Cloister School, is acclaimed as one of the greatest philosophers in France. His controversial reputation only adds to his allure, yet despite the legions of women swooning over his poetry and dashing looks, he is captivated by the brilliant Heloise alone. As their relationship blossoms from a meeting of the minds to a forbidden love affair, both Heloise and Abelard must choose between love, duty, and ambition.

Sherry Jones weaves the lovers’ own words into an evocative account of desire and sacrifice. As intimate as it is erotic, as devastating as it is beautiful, The Sharp Hook of Love is a poignant, tender tribute to one of history’s greatest romances, and to love’s power to transform and endure.  [provided by the author]

Attention reviewers: Yes, it is sexual, but also tasteful

Unshelfish

The Sharp Hook of Love has been the best historical romance I have read this year, and I have been privileged to read quite an abundance of great books in 2014. Jones’ lyrical style, along with her brilliance to bring this memorable historical couple to life will leave you in awe – torturously pleasing, achingly beautiful. For those unfamiliar with Heloise and Abelard what a wonderful way to discover a story penned with talent and competency on Jones’ part, no doubt you are in for a real treat. Cannot recommend this tale of unfaltering love enough, bravo Sherry Jones.

Indiereadergirl0329

I truly loved this novel. I hope that all the feelings were true. Pick this book up. You won’t regret it. It’s a love story that should be known and forever remembered. It’s a great example or discourse on what love was like back then, who was allowed to love, what the cost was, and what the reward was. Jones tackles the topic of societal norms and expectations of that era, without deterring from the lovers’ story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The Book Binder’s Daughter

I highly recommend THE SHARP HOOK of love not only because it is a compelling love story, but also because it is a well-researched historical novel set in twelfth century France.

Book Nerd

I have to say this is one of my favorite books!  I could not put it down.  I added Sherry Jones’ other books to my to-read pile!  Amazing author! Amazing story!

Just One More Chapter

There is so much substance to this book, showing the author’s knowledge and depth of research that went into this story.  Not just her knowledge of the characters but of the time period as well, the lifestyle and culture were shown in a way that had me visualizing so much.  Written with feeling and sensitivity Sherry Jones had me consumed, wanting to reading just a little more till I was finished.

An Accidental Blog

I can’t imagine the amount of research and the leap of imagination it took for Jones to bring these historical characters to life… If you enjoy historical romances, I think you don’t want to miss this one.

Words And Peace

VERDICT: Based on Heloise and Abelard’s letters and many other documents and studies, The Sharp Hook of Love reminds modern readers of the most famous Medieval couple, of their powerful love and their numerous obstacles to live it. Combining romance and elements of mystery, this is a must read to know more about how a brilliant European woman lived and fought in the Middle Ages.

Griperang’s Bookmarks

I liked the way Sherry developed her characters and set the scenes. Once you start this book you will not want to put it down. I am going to look for more books by this author.

The Avid Reader

I have to say as well I really liked the books cover and how much it looks like fine art. Which is just what this book was fine art, well written and interesting.

Impressions In Ink

The Sharp Hook of Love is an emotional read. It is a mesmerizing read. It is a haunting and memorable read.

Vvb32 Reads

I loved how the chapter headers incorporated original text from the letters Heloise and Abelard wrote to each other. The feelings and emotions are expressed so well from the brief passages.

Caffeinatedlife.net

it’s a deeply-felt romance that also raises some interesting and philosophical questions about the nature and impact of love.

Booksie’s Blog

Sherry Jones has written a novel that explores the role that women had in medieval Europe.

SYNOPSIS

THE NATIONAL BESTSELLER!

Bienvenue à Paris!

When April Vogt’s boss tells her about an apartment in the ninth arrondissement that has been discovered after being shuttered for the past seventy years, the Sotheby’s continental furniture specialist does not hear the words “dust” or “rats” or “decrepit.” She hears Paris. She hears escape.

Once in France, April quickly learns the apartment is not merely some rich hoarder’s repository. Beneath the cobwebs and stale perfumed air is a goldmine, and not because of the actual gold (or painted ostrich eggs or mounted rhinoceros horns or bronze bathtub). First, there’s a portrait by one of the masters of the Belle Epoque, Giovanni Boldini. And then there are letters and journals written by the very woman in the painting, Marthe de Florian. These documents reveal that she was more than a renowned courtesan with enviable decolletage. Suddenly April’s quest is no longer about the bureaux plats and Louis-style armchairs that will fetch millions at auction. It’s about discovering the story behind this charismatic woman.

It’s about discovering two women, actually.

With the help of a salty (and annoyingly sexy) Parisian solicitor and the courtesan’s private diaries, April tries to uncover the many secrets buried in the apartment. As she digs into Marthe’s life, April can’t help but take a deeper look into her own. Having left behind in the States a cheating husband, a family crisis about to erupt, and a career she’s been using as the crutch to simply get by, she feels compelled to sort out her own life too. When the things she left bubbling back home begin to boil over, and Parisian delicacies beyond flaky pâtisseries tempt her better judgment, April knows that both she and Marthe deserve happy finales.

Whether accompanied by croissants or champagne, this delectable debut novel depicts the Paris of the Belle Epoque and the present day with vibrant and stunning allure. Based on historical events, Michelle Gable’s A Paris Apartment will entertain and inspire, as readers embrace the struggles and successes of two very unforgettable women. [provided by the author]

I enjoyed this book from page one. Another book I could not put down… After reading this book it makes me want to go to Paris even more than I already did if that is possible. I look forward to more books by this author.

Bookish Wanderlove

Michelle Gable’s writing style is beautiful. I’ve never been to Paris, and I really hope to make it there someday. Michelle’s words and descriptions really brought Paris to life for me. The atmosphere and detailing of April’s surroundings felt so real to me!

Caffeinatedlife.net

I enjoyed reading A Paris Apartment: it piques your interest at the beginning and the character interaction throughout keeps you rather glued to the book. Readers who enjoy novels set in France and the Belle Epoque and who enjoy history and handling the antiquities may want to check out this novel.

Words And Peace

In the company of the furniture assessor April, go spend a month in Paris and get to know with her a remarkable woman who lived their at the end of the 19th century. This fascinating historical novel will open a new world to you, with messages that may give you a new lease on life.

Jorie Loves A Story

Gable allows her American and French characters to respond and react within the perimeters of this well-established awareness between the two cultural divides, yet she always attempts to step out of the stigma and re-align a sense of forward progression.

An Accidental Blog

I also enjoyed the fact that the main character was well-respected expert in her field and didn’t apologize for being a businesswoman, even when the Frenchman accused her of working too hard.
I zipped through this book, anxious to see what happened next.
I’d definitely recommend picking it up and whiling away some time in Paris.

Book Nerd

This was a very well-written book, the story line was effectively delivered and the characters were memorable.  I enjoyed and highly recommend.

Mirasol Press

I loved the story of Marthe, the “demimondaine” apartment owner, and her relationship to the famous artist Boldini, Victor Hugo, and other 19th century personages, and the descriptions of the possessions she accrued in her work. I appreciated the historical accuracy and descriptions of Paris.
