SYNOPSIS

The game isn’t over.
Art dealer Marc Perron relocates to London with his lover, singer Sera Durand, to protect her from past mistakes. Blackmailed by a gangster, he must return to Paris, leaving Sera alone and vulnerable. Forging a precious painting may be his only chance at survival, but if he’s found out, the consequences will be deadly.
Without Marc, Sera struggles in an English-speaking country, coming face to face with his lies, his sexual past, and her own misdeeds. Finding a job at a jazz club called ‘Sanctuary’ is anything but, as she is not safe from her new boss, or the disturbing man who spies on her every move.
Once more, the lovers must play the game, but the stakes are higher than they imagined… [provided by the author]

SYNOPSIS

Possession. Power. Passion. New York Times bestselling novelist M. J. Rose creates her most provocative and magical spellbinder yet in this gothic novel set against the lavish spectacle of 1890s Belle Époque Paris.

Sandrine Salome flees New York for her grandmother’s Paris mansion to escape her dangerous husband, but what she finds there is even more menacing. The house, famous for its lavish art collection and elegant salons, is mysteriously closed up. Although her grandmother insists it’s dangerous for Sandrine to visit, she defies her and meets Julien Duplessi, a mesmerizing young architect. Together they explore the hidden night world of Paris, the forbidden occult underground and Sandrine’s deepest desires.

Among the bohemians and the demi-monde, Sandrine discovers her erotic nature as a lover and painter. Then darker influences threaten—her cold and cruel husband is tracking her down and something sinister is taking hold, changing Sandrine, altering her. She’s become possessed by La Lune: A witch, a legend, and a sixteenth-century courtesan, who opens up her life to a darkness that may become a gift or a curse.

This is Sandrine’s “wild night of the soul,” her odyssey in the magnificent city of Paris, of art, love, and witchery. [provided by the author]

TOUR QUOTATIONS

I’m Lost in Books

There were so many facets and layers yet they all blended seamlessly.  That’s true writing talent.
I really recommend this book for anyone who likes their historical fiction with a twist of paranormal suspense.

The Book Binder’s Daughter

I don’t usually read books in the fantasy genre, but THE WITCH OF PAINTED SORROWS has just enough mystery mixed with historical fiction to make an interesting novel.

The Reading Queen

M.J. Rose breathes to life a glimpse into the beauty and mysticism of 1890s Belle Époque Paris. With her beautiful prose, M.J. Rose paints a portrait nearly as striking as the artwork hanging in the Louvre.
If you enjoy books related to France and beautiful historical fiction with elements of love, magic, and art, The Witch of Painted Sorrows is a book to read.

Indiereadergirl0329

I really enjoyed reading this novel. It was fresh, provocative, and alluring.
I will definitely continue reading the series if not for the atmosphere alone. I loved how Rose painted that world. It pulled me under, what can I say? I hope you give this book a try.

Chocolate & Croissants

I usually am not a fan of the paranormal however this book could be my exception.
I found the characters to be quite unique and really enjoyed the role that the house played in the book.
This is an amazing story that takes the reader back in time to a different era.  Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of the book.

Savvy Verse & Wit

Is art a divine gift or is it a talent that can be nurtured and shaped into legend?  Rose delves into these questions and more in her deeply layered world of artistry and passion.

Libri Amori Miei

MJ Rose has been able to mix in an excellent way  mystery with passion, historical elements with paranormal. I was completely glued to the pages.
It’s a must-read for anyone who loves Paris, romantic suspense and historical novels.

Book Nerd

I read M.J. Rose before so I should have anticipated a great story, with a great heroine and magic.  “The Witch of Pained Sorrows” had all these qualities and more.
Thoroughly enjoyable and magical story.

Words And Peace

Masterfully combining a threatening mix of historical fiction, suspense, paranormal and romantic elements, MJ Rose manages once again to lead her readers into an irresistible world. The magic of art is luscious and rich, but it can be also extremely dangerous. You have been warned, now enjoy!

From L.A. to LA

There’s a sense of magic about this book.
In a way the beauty and magic of the cover is exactly how it feels to read this book.
I can’t wait to see where Rose decides to go with this series. 5/5

Griperang’s Bookmarks

I suggest this book to you if you are looking for suspenseful story with a little romance thrown in. I look forward to the next book that M.J. has in store for us.

It’s a Mad Mad World

I enjoyed reading The Witch of Painted Sorrow very much and I’m looking forward to read the rest of the books in this series and other books that M.J. Rose has written.

Bookramblings

Very enjoyable and gripping read that kept me wanting to know what happens next.

Jorie Loves A Story

She has a gift for writing eloquence into her stories, herein she did this by giving the softer and luxurious benefits of being a ‘courtesan’ on behalf of Sandrine’s grandmother but also owning to the setting and time of the story itself.
