SYNOPSIS

A French teacher on the verge of retirement is invited to a glittering opening that showcases the artwork of his former student, who has since become a celebrated painter. This unexpected encounter leads to the older man posing for his portrait. Possibly in the nude. Such personal exposure at close range entails a strange and troubling pact between artist and sitter that prompts both to reevaluate their lives.
Blondel, author of the hugely popular novel The 6:41 to Paris, evokes an intimacy of dangerous intensity in a tale marked by profound nostalgia and a reckoning with the past that allows its two characters to move ahead into the future. [provided by the publisher]

NB: this is NOT erotica!

Exposed deals with the joys and uncertainties of youth, as well as aging and regret, thwarted friendships and loves, and nostalgia and searching for renewal. It’s beautifully written and sensitively translated from French, highly engaging and accessible to a wide array of readers. It contains no explicit sex or anything that would put off a reader open to the experience of good literature.”

“Blondel writes superbly.”

FrenchVillageDiaries

Each little window on their French life is written with his obvious love of France, lots of humour and every now and then a little frustration at the French way too. I enjoyed this book, a bit more than the first, and I’m sure that memoir lovers of all things French will also love it and hopefully learn something too. From places to visit in Provence, food to try and top tips for learning French, this book has it all.

Library of Clean Reads

Reading travel memoirs are a great way to experience armchair traveling. I love Europe and was quickly attracted to the book cover of this memoir that promised some humorous anecdotes of Keith and his wife Val’s adventures while living in France. I was right. I was entertained from the first chapter to the last.
This was a fun book to read and I would recommend it to anyone who loves memoirs, France, traveling and the expat life.

Words And Peace

Nice collections of funny and culturally aware vignettes highlighting how life can be enriched by being familiar with two cultures.

Coffee, Chocolate or Tennis

Are we French Yet is an engaging and delightful read particularly if you are a Francophile like me. The book will kindle the sense of adventure in travelers who do not just want a vacation but to live like a local.

An Accidental Blog

Moving to a new country is always a challenge, and I loved sharing the adventures of Keith Van Sickle and his wife Val.

Locks, Hooks and Books

Are We French Yet?: Keith and Val’s Adventures in Provence is a fun and entertaining read.
It was interesting to find out what they went through trying to fit in.
I learned so much.
I recommend it for those who want to know what to expect if they travel to France. I liked it!

Chocolate and Croissants

The book is thoroughly charming and engaging.

Books Are Cool

Like its predecessor it’s wonderfully funny and full of wry observations about his host nation and the idiosyncrasies of its people that make them so very fascinating – and French.

Grass Monster

The reader can get lost in the life of living in France with Keith’s many descriptive references and beautiful scenery.
I really enjoyed being back with Keith and Val and look forward to more adventures from them in the future.
